Font List is a small Shareware program that allows you to print sample pages of all your fonts. Since most people sooner or later loose their overview of all the fonts that accumulate, this is a big help for all who have something to do with fonts.
What does it cost?
Font List is Shareware. After a reasonable evaluation time (say, 14 days or so…), you must register at the author for a fee of US $ 10,–. For this price you may use this software and you get free updates and upgrades as well as reductions for my other programs. To register, please use the "Register" application that comes with this package.
How does it work?
Font List is a simple and pretty straightforward program. You should be able to use it without reading all this blurb here… Users of older versions, please read the "Version History" section to learn about the new features!
Click on a fontname on the list on the left side of the window and the sample text on the right will change to that font. Simple. Remember the trouble you had to review a font in SimpleText (with the font menu, etc.) this alone should be worth the $ 10,– , but this you get for free with my Freeware program "Simple Font" - Font List can do much more.
The "B" button, of course, toggles the display text to bold, likewise the "I" button toggles Italic on/off. Use the pop-up menu to change the font size – and of course, you can change the text at will. How about your favorite poem, or all symbols from "!" to "Ÿ" (good for symbol fonts).
To mark a font to be printed, just double-click on its name in the font list, it will be marked with a "•" - and double-clicking again removes the mark. Alternatively you can also press M or choose Item from the Select Menu. The other items in this menu select all fonts, select none or invert the selection.
By pressing the Print… button (or by selecting Print… from the File menu) you print sample pages with all the selected fonts. A hidden feature here is the "review" window: if you are unsure wether you have marked the right fonts, hold down the Option (Alt) key while you click on "Print" in the print dialog…
Of course, you can also change the sample texts that will be printed: Choose face samples… from the Samples menu. Here you can also change the font in which the title (i.e. the face name) will be printed. Select use current from the Titlefont submenu to use the currently selected font as titlefont. The other items in this submenu, Bold, Italic and Outline toggle these attributes.

Check out other cool software:
• Simple Font is a striped-down version of Font List. it can't print, but it allows you to quickly browse all your installed fonts. No need to quit and start again if you have added new fonts, it can re-read the fonts on demand… the best is: it's Freeware!
• Fortune is a simpe "fortune" frontend for the Mac. Ever wanted to have these great fortune cookies that come with Linux? Try it with this one – again, it's Freeware!
• Font Browser is the high-end font management for designers and printers. The features are more like in a 500 $ software, but for you it's just 20 bucks. Available in Spring '98.
Version History
Font List 1.1.3 — 25.11.97
This is a built-back version from 1.2, which happened to crash, so I threw out everything that could make it crash and called it 1.1. It's an interim version, as the new version 1.2 will come out soon.
• Design changes again – not as cool as before, but resizeable and looks better with System 8
• Added a "B" (bold), a "I" (Italic) button and a size-pop-up to change the sample text
• Now you can change the Title font in the printed samples – but who doesn't like Geneva Bold Italic?
Font List 1.1 beta 1 — 30.08.97
Was the prefered version for quite a while, since I have lost the sourcecode and therefore couldn't make it final. Some people have also got a "beta 2" version but that wasn't public.
• new design. hope you like it :)
• now has only one list. Fonts are marked for printing with a bullet;
• Added a new “Select” menu with the items:
◊ “Item” (marks the current selection)
◊ “All” (marks all fonts for printing)
◊ “None” (un-marks all fonts)
◊ “Invert” (inverts the selection)
• Removed the “Undo” function. It never really worked anyway :-(
• Added a “review” function to the printing process. Hold down the option key after clicking on the print button to see a list of the fonts that will be printed. Very handy for a final check.
Font List 1.0.1 — 20.07.97
• If you have the Layout window open, the texts there are displayed in the current typeface. This makes them easier to edit.
• The list of the fonts to be printed gets now cleared after printing the pages.
• the “Refresh List” menu item (Command-O) now reliably refreshes the font list even if you have added new fonts to the system.
• the headline is now printed black on white to workaround a bug in some older printers.
Font List 1.0 – initial release — 14.07.97
• lists all currently installed fonts and lets you print sample pages.
• displays a sample text in the selected font’s typeface
• All sample texts can be edited. Although I think I have found pretty good samples ;-)
